今回のノーベル賞を受賞された3人の方の英語のプレゼンテーションを聞きました。

I heard the presentations that the three persons who were awarded Novel prize.

大変素晴しい内容のプレゼンだったと思います。

I thought that these were wonderful and excellent presentation.

私たちが普段使う英語ととても似ているなぁ、と思いました。

I thought that the presentations were very similar to the English we has used in general.

少なくとも私たちエンジニアは、日本の英語教師が病的に気にするLとRの発音なんぞ意識もしません。イントネーションだって歯牙にもかけません。

As for at least us as the engineers, we are not conscious of pronunciation anything of the Ls and Rs which a Japanese English teacher minds pathologically. I do not mind even intonation.

文法的に変なフレーズでも会話し続けますし(しないと仕事にならない)、分からなければ、何度でも聞き返します。

We keep English conversations even if a strange phrase happens (If not, we cannot finish our tasks), we speak same phrases again and again, if we cannot understand the questions.

大切なのはコンテンツであり、英語を使うこと自体であり、コミュニケーションするという意思です。

I think that the most important thing is to use English itself, to have an intention for English communication.

と、こんなに、さんざん言ってきているのに、まだ分からん人がいるようです。

I said the above again, again and again, but someone don't want to understand it.

"Japanese English"という発想というコラムの内容で、「この程度の(江端の)英語では仕事にならない」とコメントしている人がいますが、

According to my column "a concept of Japanese English", some persons insist on saying "he cannot make any job with his English"

―― では、一体、私は、海外で何をしてきたんだろう？

"So, what were I going to do abroad?"

―― あれは、仕事ではなかったのか

"Wasn't that work"

私が、こんなに「大丈夫だ」といっても、信じないのは何故なのだろう。

Why do they want to believe me, even I keep saying "no problem"?

そんなに信じたくない、何かがあるのだろうか。

I doubt whether they have some reasons not to believe me.

コミュニケーションが、連続系のフィードバックシステムであるということを理解していない人が多すぎるように思います。

I think that number of people cannot understand that communication is a kind of continuous feedback system.

YesとNoを逆方向に間違えたって、定冠詞を使わなくたって、会話を続けていくことで、誤解は消滅方向に収斂していくのです。

If we misuse an opposite meaning "Yes/No", and we skip to use definite articles, any misunderstanding becomes to coverage with flameout.

「一発勝負の100%のフレーズの理解が必要」という思い込みが、私たちを英語から遠ざけます。

A belief that a perfect understanding of the phrase by just one time, keeps us away from English.

そして、その観念を、一発勝負の100%のフレーズでしか理解できない、日本の英語テストというシステム(入試英語、TOEIC)が、強化します。

In addition to this, the belief is strengthened by the system of entrance examination of Japan, and TOEIC, whose styles are "just one time" way.

こうして、我が国は「英語をしゃべらせないシステム」として完成する訳です。

Thus, our country becomes completed as "the system which does not let us speak English".
