After reading your co-worker's review, I added a note under the table of contents on the first page, "If you don't have time, just read the Shibata Report.

次女さんのレビューを読み、ちょっとだけ思ったのは、変な言い方ですが、「恐怖心が足りない人も多数いるんだろうな」ということです。

I read your second daughter's review and thought for a moment, in a strange way, that there must be a large number of people who do not have enough fear.

一時期、「コロナを正しく恐れよう」と、ニュースなどでもいわれましたが、おそらく、死者数がかなり少ない日本人にとっては、「コロナでどんどん人が亡くなっていく」という状況を、現実のものとして感じられないんだろうなと思うのです。

At one time, there was a lot of talk on the news about "fearing Corona correctly," but I think that Japanese people, for whom the number of deaths is quite small, probably cannot feel the reality of a situation in which "more and more people are dying by Corona".

イタリアのように、死者がトラックでがんがん運ばれているわけでもなく、NYのように、火葬が間に合わず、病院の隣の巨大な倉庫に大量の遺体が保管されている、ということもなく、確かに感染者は一時期急増したけど、「コロナって本当にそんなに怖いものなの？」と感じている若い方も多いのかもしれません。

It's not like Italy, where the dead are being trucked in by the truckload, or like New York, where cremation can't be done in time and a lot of bodies are stored in a huge warehouse next to the hospital. The number of infected people has increased rapidly, however, many young people may be wondering, "Is corona really that scary?

あとは、重症がどれだけつらいか、恐ろしいかを想像しにくいということも、あるかもしれません。

The other thing may be that it's hard to imagine how painful and frightening the COVID-19 can be.

私などは、今回の「付録1」を読んだだけで「ひーーー！ぜったい、ぜったい、感染したくない！！！」と、怖くて仕方なくなるのですが…。

In my opinion, I just read this "Appendix 1" and said, "Heee! I really, really don't want to get infected! I'm so scared....

これがもし、SARSのように致死率が高かったり、エボラのように、穴という穴から出血して亡くなるという恐ろしい死に方をしたりする感染症のパンデミックであれば、外出自粛も、ワクチン接種も、全然違う捉え方をされていたかも、とも思っています。

If this had been a pandemic of an infectious disease with a high fatality rate like SARS or a horrible death rate like Ebola, where people bleed to death from holes in the ground, I wonder if people would have taken a completely different approach to refraining from going out and getting vaccinated.

私には大学生の友達や知り合いはいないのですが、もし聞けるならば「ぶっちゃけ、コロナって怖い？」と聞いてみたいです。

I don't have any friends or acquaintances who are college students. However I would like to ask them, "To be frank, is Corona scary? , if possible,
