今朝、電車の中のサイネージ広告(動画広告)を見ていたら、「AIボタン」なるリモコンを具備したクーラーの広告が表示されていました。

While watching a digital signage advertisement (video advertisement) on a train, I notice that an advertisement of air conditioner whose remoto controller has "AI button".

それを見た瞬間、

At the moment, I was moved

―― 勇気あるなぁ

"They are brave"

と思いました。

1990年頃、日本がバブル経済で踊り狂っていたころ、第二次AIブームというものがありました。

At the 1990's, the second AI boom came when Japan was crazy about bubble ecomony.

大手製造メーカ、家電メーカーは、こぞってニューラルネットワークやファジィ推論エンジンを搭載した(と称した)、電子レンジ、洗濯機、扇風機、食洗機、乾燥機を、市場に投入していました。

Leading manufacturers and consumer electronics manufacturers had put the market on microwave ovens, washing machines, fans, dishwashers, and dryers, all equipped with (named) neural networks and fuzzy inference engines.

しかし、どのメーカも、「AI」という略語を付したインターフェース(ボタン)を作ることはありませんでした。

However, none of the manufacturers tried to name the abbreviation "AI" to interface (button).

業界全体から、嘲笑、冷笑、罵倒、その他、ありとあらゆる侮辱を受けることを知っていたからです。

Because they knew they received all sorts of jealousy, ridicule, sneer, and so on from the whole industry,

多分、その会社に勤務する技術者は『恥しくて外を歩けないレベル』だっただろうと思います。

Perhaps I think that the engineer who works for the company could not walk out side for the shamed.

『ふーん、あなたの会社は、家電製品に、人間の知能と同程度のエンジンを搭載しているんだぁーー 凄いねぇ』

"Hmm, your company is equipped with the same engine as human intelligence on home appliances. It is amazing"

『じゃあ、電子レンジの次は、大型旅客飛行機の完全自動運転と、原子力発電所の自動オペレーションだね！ 楽しみにしているよ！！』

"Oh, next to microwave ovens, you are goint to try fully automated operation of large passenger planes and automated operation of nuclear power plants! I am looking forward to them!! "

と、まあ、ニヤニヤされながら、この程度の嫌味は言われたことでしょう。

Well, they would have been said such disgusts with being grinning.

少くとも、私なら、絶対にそう言っていたし ――

At least, I would have said them absolutely.

今でも、そう言う(まさに、今、その最中)。

Now I will say them absolutely. (Just right now, I am doing)
