先日読んだ4コママンガに、こんなネタがありました。

There was such a story in the 4 frame manga which I read the other day.

―― 「鶴の恩返し」で登場する青年の家には、なぜ「機織り機」なんぞがあったのか？

"Why was there a "weaver machine" in the youth's house that appeared in "The Crane of Gratitude"?

確かに。

Definitely.

独身男性の家に、一部屋を占拠して、あんな大規模な織機(しょっき)がある状況は、異様です。

The situation was strange that the man have had a big "weaver machine" in a single male house, occupying one room.

例えば、青年の母親が生前所有していたものであったとしても、稼動率0の織機を残置しておくのは、いかにも不自然です。

Even though the young mother owned himself before her life, it was very unnatural to leave a "weaver machine" with an operating rate of 0.

「未来の嫁さんに働いて貰う為」という設定も考えられますが、それくらいなら、「処分するのが面倒」だったという設定の方が、まだ自然です。

We can think of setting "to work for the future bride," however it is unnatural. It is rather natural that the reason of "it was troublesome to dispose".

それ以上に、多分、この鶴の恩返しの作者は、「工作機械」というものの性質を理解できていないと思います。

Beyond that, perhaps, I think that the authors of this "The Crane of Gratitude" did not understand the nature of "machine".

「工作機械」というものは、一定期間使用しないと、著しく劣化していくものであり、手入れもせずに放置しておいた織機が、いきなり動き出すことは、まずありえないことなのです。

"Machine" is going to deteriorate remarkably unless it is used for a certain long period, and in many case, it is impossible to restart a machine weaver machine without care.

それくらい、「再起動」というのは難しいのです。

The "restarting" is difficult like that.

実際、生産ラインでは、原料を投入せず、製品を生産しない状態でも、機械を稼動しつづけることで、この問題を回避しています。

よりも、

「再起動に失敗して、織機を壊してしまうこと」

"Failure to restart and destroy the weaver machine"

の方が、懸案だったのではないかと思っています。

『もし壊してしまったら、こっそり逃亡する時間を稼ぐ』為に、青年に、「この部屋の中を決して見ないで下さいね」と頼んでいた、

"If she broke it, she want to keep time to escape secretly" and she asked the young man "Never look at this room"

と考えるほうが、

システムエンジニアとしての私には、しっくりきます

The above story is acceptable for me, as a system engineer.
