「『老子』がみた「ヒルズ族」失墜の要因」(プレジデント社 2007.10.1号)というコラムを読んで、久々に感に入りました。

・強いものは必ず衰える。なぜなら自然に反しているからである。自然に反したものは長続きしない。（物壮んなれば則ち老ゆ，これを不道と謂う。不道は早く已む）三十章

ところが少数ではあるが、強い権勢を維持できる人物や一族もいて、そこには共通項を見い出すことができるそうです。

・自分を是とすれば、かえって無視される。自分を誇示すれば、かえって排斥される。自分の功績を診れば、かえって非難にさらされる。自分の才能を鼻にかければ、かえって足を引っ張られる。（自ら是とする者は章れず。自ら見す者は明らかならず．．自ら伐る者は功なし。自ら行る者は長からず）二十四章

要するに、周囲の反感を買わずに生きれるか否かということらしいです。

さて省みてみるに、この法則をこの私に当て嵌めてみると、次のようなことが言えます。

「強くない私は衰えない。なぜなら自然に適合しているからである」

「自分を是としても、誰も相手にしてくれない。自分を誇示すれば、軽くいなされる。自分の功績を診れば、笑われる。自分の才能を鼻にかければ、馬鹿にされる」

故に「江端は失墜しない」という結論が、背理法的に証明される訳です。

先週末は、人口減少結果に関するアンケートの結果を沢山頂きました。

今週末は、図書館から参考資料を掻き集めていました。

「生殖技術」、「生殖・発生の医学と倫理」「どう考える？生殖医療」「受精卵診断と出生前診断」の4冊。

一冊目を、たった30ページ程読んだところですが、

―― 本当にとんでもないものに、手を出してしまった

と、凄まじい後悔の中にいます。

この問題、重いぞ。重すぎる。

提出してしまった初版原稿を「なかったこと」にしたい。

私は、今、、タイムリープマシンを開発してしまい、牧瀬紅莉栖を救うことのできないことに気がついた、岡部倫太郎の気持が、よく理解できます。

最近、次女が、美内すずえ先生の漫画「ガラスの仮面」に嵌っています。

Recently, my junior daughter is enthusiastic about "Glass mask" by Miuchi Suzue sensei.

次女は、本を読んでは、その部屋に放置するので、今、「ガラスの仮面」が、全室に最低1冊はあります。

She read the comics and leave it at any room in my house.

「ガラスの仮面」の主人公、北島マヤは、

"A girl who is common, plain, and not bright and not beautiful."

という設定になっていますが、

北島マヤって、美人に描かれていますよね。

She is drawn on the beautiful woman isn't she?

北島マヤが、月影先生のような風体をしている、というなら話は別ですが、

If she looks like Tukikaze-sennsei, it is another story.

姫川亜弓と比較して「勝負にならない」という感じでは全然ないですよね。

However, I don't think that she is inferior to "Himekawa Ayumi"

(勝負にならないのは、着ている服くらいです)

I agree that her clothes are inferior to it's of "Himekawa Ayumi"

つまり、なんだかんだいって、お芝居やるなら「美人」である必要がある、ということを、この漫画は雄弁に語っていると思うんですよ。

In other words, I think that this comic says strongly that "if you want to be an actress, you should be a beautiful woman"

映画「天空の蜂」

A movie of "a bee of the heavens".

実に素晴しかった。

It was really splendid.

原作を、これほど見事に、完全な形で「映像」にして頂けるとは、想像もできませんでした(原作者の東野さん自身が、『映像化不可能』とおっしゃっておられたようです)。

It is beyond all my imagination that they can make the perfect movie from the original book beautifully.(Higashino-san, original write had said "the picturization was impossible")

原作の東野さんは言うに及ばず、役者さんの皆さん、特に本木さんも、江口さんも、実に見事でした。

Not to say Higashino-san, all actors and actress, especially Motoki-san, Eguch-san was perfect.

もちろん、そこに至るまで皆さんの努力に、心から感謝申し上げます。

Of course I thank for the effort of the movie staffs heartily.

このような映画が、もっと出てこなければならない。

Such a movie must come out more.

原子力の原理(危険性も含む)、原子力発電所のシステム(せめて、軽水炉と重水炉の違いだけでも)を、カレーライスの作り方くらい、当たり前の知識となる時代にならなければならない。

I think that new era should be coming that we know atomic principle (including the risk), and nuclear power plant (only the difference between light water reactor and heavy-water reactor at least), like how to make curry and rice.

国際連合事務総長は、紛争当事国の大統領と会合するし、加盟国の国連大使に対して、和平の勧告を行ったりします。

The Secretary-General of United Nations(UN) meets a Chief Executive to a dispute and makes a peace recommendation to ambassadors to the United Nations.

これって、「事務」ではなく明かに「外交」ですし、下手すると「内政干渉」にもなりかねないほどの「政治」です。

This is not "official work" but "diplomacy" apparently, and serious "political activity", close to "interference in domestic affairs".

なにしろ、国際連合の決定に不服の各国は、自由意思で、好きな時に連合から脱退することができるのですから。

Above all, any nation can withdraw from the UN anytime, based on their own free will, if the nation complains about the UN decision.

が、それをやられると、多くの場合、戦争になるんですよ。

However, the withdrawal will cause a war in many case,

しかもシャレにならんくらい大きな戦争に。

and enormous war beyond a joke.

日本も、昔、威勢よく「席をけって」国際連盟(League of Nations)を脱退したことがあります。

The decades-old Japan withdrew from the League of Nations with stalking out of the room n spirited manner.

当然、日本は国際的に孤立した訳でして、そんでもって同じように孤立した国が集って「枢軸国」という新しい枠組みを作りました。

Of course, Japan was isolated internationally, and other isolated countries were gathered to make a new framework of "the Axis powers".

この枢軸国で、世界に喧嘩を売ったのが第二次世界大戦、太平洋戦争で、最終的にこの枢軸国の全ての国がコテンパにされました。

This Axis powers raised a quarrel with the world, and the World War II, and the Pacific War started. Finally these Axis powers were defeated perfectly.

それだけでなく、世界中で、非戦闘員も含めて、何千万の人が戦争で殺されました。

Not only that, all over the world, including non-combatants, tens of millions of people have been killed in the war.

こういう奴を作ると、面倒くさいことになることを、世界は経験的に知っているのです。

To make this annoying country, the world knows experimentally that a troublesome is coming.

―― 国家を孤立化させると、ロクなことにならない

"If we isolate a nation, nothing good happens."

ですから、世界は「隣国の半島の北側の国」を孤立させない為に一生懸命な訳で、国際連合事務総長は、世界中を巡回しなければならない訳です。

So, the world is always busy in order not to isolate the "north side of the country of the neighboring countries of the peninsula", the Secretary-General of the United Nations, should go anywhere all over the world.

当初、私は、上記の"for nothing"を、"fanatic(狂信的な)"と聞こえてしまい、困惑してしまっていました。

Initially, I misunderstood the above "for nothing" as "fanatic" and I was confused.

もし私が日本政府代表だったら ―― 「狂っている？ はぁ？ 」って思い、腹を立てて、『オマエモナー』とか『お前が言うな』とか、つっこんだに違いない。

If I had been a representation of government of Japan(GOJ), I would have said to them "you too." or "you don't say that"

もっとも、その後、逆上したテロリストに人質を殺害される、という最悪のシナリオになったかもしれません。

And after that, frenetic terrorists would have killed the hostages on the plain. The nightmare scenario might have come.

私は、日本英語の支持者ではありますが「人命のかかる場面での、日本英語の使用はやめよう」と決意しました。

Although I am a supporter of Japanese English, I decided to "stop using Japanese English in life-threatening work".

■発音、文法、婉曲、比喩表現 ―― 全部無視。

彼らには、交渉するだけのコミュニケーションの道具(英語力とか語彙力)が"ない"か"足りない"だけだったかもしれません。

They might not have had communication tools (English ability or vocabulary skill) to negotiate.

しかし、結果として、彼らは、当時の日本政府を屈服させたのです。

However, as a result, they succumbed to the Japanese government of those days.

これは、私達日本人に、大変な勇気を与えてくれたと思うのです。

I think that they gave tremendous courage to us (Japanese).

「人間、死ぬ気(実際、彼らは自決覚悟だった)でしゃべれば通じる」 ―― ということを、文字通り、彼らは証明して見せたのです。

"Humans being can communicate anyone, if preparing for death"(Actually, they were prepared for self-determination). Literally, they proved it and showed us it.

この3連休は、仕事なのか趣味なのか分からないことに時間を使っていました ―― そうですね、一日18時間くらい。

I spent a lot of time on this three-day holiday for something of both my work and hobby, so it is about 18 hours a day.

課題は2つ。

There were two challenges.

「AWS(Amazon Web Service)の構築方法」と「みちびき(GPS)モジュールの使い方」のメドをつけることでした。

I was going to get skills of "How to build AWS (Amazon Web Service)" and "How to use the Michibiki (GPS) module".

技術分野で食べている人は知っていると思いますが ―― 技術を取得しようと思った時には、予め、かなりの回数の「失敗」を組み込んでおかなければなりません。

I think people who live in a technical field, know -- When you want to acquire technology, you have to include a considerable number of "failures" in advance.

『マニュアルを読む→その通りに動かしてみる→動かない』を「20回」くらい繰り返すイメージです。

It is an image that repeats "read the manual → try it → fail it" about 20 times.

(不本意ではありますが)手を動かしながら、失敗を繰り返し、マニュアルの内容を暗記してしまうくらいになって、ようやく、モノは動き始めます。

(Although unwillingly) after I moved my hand, repeated failures, and memorized the contents of the manual, things start to move finally.

ですので、「マニュアル」や「ハウツー本」を、一回読んだだけで、その技術が取得できると信じている人は、私から見れば「おめでたい」です。

So, if you believe that you can acquire the technology just by reading "manual" and "how-to books" once, I will give you "you looks happy".

「(1)みちびき(GPS)モジュールの使い方」であれ、

Even if it is "(1) How to use the Michibiki (GPS) module",or

「(2)幸せな人生を掴む方法」であれ、

"(2) How to grab a happy life", or

「(3)一週間で3kg痩せる方法」であれ、

つまるところ、これらは「技術」です。

After all, these are “technologies”.

「(1)みちびき(GPS)モジュールの使い方」を習得する為には、そのモジュールを動かす機器の環境によって、取り扱いを色々試さなければなりません。

In order to learn "(1) How to use the Michibiki (GPS) module", you have to test how it is handled depending on the environment of the device that operates the module.

20回は、再構築を試みなければならないでしょう。

More than 20 times will be needed to rebuild it.

「(2)幸せな人生を掴む方法」の技術取得は、もっと過酷です。

The technology acquisition of "(2) How to grab a happy life" is more severe.

人間は、過去、環境、スキル、思考方法から、信念に至るまで、みんなバラバラだからです。

Because human beings have their own past, environment, skills, thinking, and beliefs.

幸せな人生を掴むために、20回以上は「失敗」する覚悟が必要でしょう。

To get a happy life, you need to be prepared to fail 20 times or more.

しかし、そんなことは、今さら説明するまでもなく、「(3)一週間で3kg痩せる方法」で、みんな良く知っているハズです。

However, there is no need to explain it now, and everyone is familiar with "(3) How to lose 3 kg in a week".

プリキュアというアニメの舞台が、我が家の近くの駅の街にあるらしい ―― と、長女から聞きました。

I heard from my senior daughter, "Apparently the anime Pretty Cure is set in a train station town near my house"

江端:「彼女たちは、何をやっているんだ」

"What are these girls doing?

長女:「地球の平和を守っているんだよ」

"They are just trying to keep the peace on earth"

江端:「誰から」

"From whom?"

長女:「悪の宇宙人から」

"From an evil alien"

江端:「何でやってんの、そんなこと。それは、行政(防衛省)の仕事だろう？」

"Why are they doing that? Isn't that the government's (Ministry of Defense) work?"

長女:「正義の為だよ」

"It's about justice"

江端:「原資は？」

"What's the source of funds?"

長女:「ないよ」

"None."

江端:「そりゃ無理だろう。物資の配給、通信、設備、衛生、施設、いわゆる兵站がないと、戦争は成立せんぞ」

"That would be impossible. You can't have a war without distribution of supplies, communications, equipment, sanitation, facilities and so-called logistics"

長女:「必要ないよ。正義の宇宙人から補給を受けているから」

"They don't need it. They are getting supplies from the righteous aliens"

江端:「じゃあ、そのプリキュアなる私設義勇兵は、宇宙人同士の『代理戦争』をやらされているわけだ」

"So the private volunteer army whose name "Pretty Cure" is being forced to engage in a "proxy war" between aliens"

長女:「そういう感じじゃないんだけどな」

"It's not like that"

江端:「まあ、とにかく、我が国の国益の為戦争をやってくれている訳だ」

"Well, anyway, you're fighting a war in our country's national interest"

長女:「それも違うなぁ」

"It's not like that either"

江端:「じゃあ、名目上の大義があるわけだ」

"So they have a nominal cause"

長女:「うん。『正義』」

"Yes. That is justice"

江端:「いや、正義というのは、相対的なものであって、大抵の場合は、居住地や国家の安全と安心を提供する側に、紐付く概念であってだな・・・」

"No, justice is a relative thing, a concept that's mostly tied to the place of residence and the side that provides the safety and security of the state..."

という会話で遊んでいました ―― いい大人が２人して。

今、スキマ時間(10分単位)を見つけて、2冊目の本をダラダラと書いています。

I'm currently finding time in the gaps (10-minute unit) to lazily write my second book.

その中で、Dockerの解説文を書いているのですが、なかなか良い内容と自負しておりますので、ご紹介致します。

■『マンションの戸の内側とのコミュニケーションは、インターホン(ポート番号)のみで行うという徹底ぶり』ですので、ホストOS(Windows10)への、環境変数(PATHやLIB)などの設定は不要です。

- Communication with the inside of the apartment building is thorough, using only the intercom (port number), so there is no need to set environment variables (PATH or LIB) for the host OS (Windows 10).

■(私たちエンジニアは、このことを「本宅(ホストOS)の環境を汚さずに済む」という言い方をします。)

■同じOS(例えばWindows10)に2つ以上の異なるバージョンの同じアプリをインストールしたら、アプリを正確に立ち上げることもできないし、仮にできたとしても、設定環境がグッチャグチャで、多分、まともに動かすことはできません。

- If you install two or more different versions of the same app on the same OS (e.g. Windows 10), you won't be able to launch the app correctly, and even if you could, you probably wouldn't be able to run it properly because of the messed up configuration environment.

It is natrual that I pay for time to write my column, however, I have to waste time to make a illustration.
