金で解決──親も子供も宿題丸投げ　代行業者が繁盛

「読書感想文」から「自由研究」まで、夏休みの宿題を片づける「宿題代行業者」が登場し、賛否を呼んでいる。メールなどで届いた依頼に、アルバイトの学生らが有料で応える。多くの小中学校で夏休み最後となる今週末は“駆け込み客”が殺到しているというが、「家庭学習の習慣を身につけるという本来の趣旨に反している」と、教育関係者は批判的だ。

どんなにいけすかない奴と言われようとも、私は「夏休みの自由研究」のネタに困った記憶がない珍しい小学生でした(どのネタにしようか迷ったという記憶はありますが)。

学年代表の発表も何度かやった記憶があります。

こうしてみると、今の職業(研究員)には就くべくして就いたのかもしれません。

しかし、娘の自由研究の宿題を2本も提出させたのは、私の意図ではありません。

私は逆に娘の自尊心を傷つけることになると、協力を拒んだんです。

しかし、嫁さんと娘は、私の主張に対して『？？？』という顔をしていました。

そんな訳で、娘の観察結果に対して、研究の纏め方を指示してやりました。(背景→目的→結果→考察、という一般的な研究プレゼンのパターンです)

「夏休みの研究ネタ」で困っている親子に、コンサルを行なうというベンチャーなら行けるかもしれんなぁ、と思ったりしていました。

江端家のパソコンの話題の続きです。

Microsoft社が、来年の4月にWindowsXPのサポートを停止することを、昨夜家族に説明しました。

嫁さん：「で、サポートが停止されると、どうなるの」

江端：「サポートの停止後、ウイルスに感染したり、インターネットから攻撃を受けてパソコン(のデータ)を破壊されたり、あるいはパソコンから個人情報を盗まれる可能性が、格段に上がる」

嫁さんや娘たちは、口を合わせて「酷い！」と言いました。

「そうだよなぁ。まったく世の中には、しょーもない犯罪をする奴がいて、本当に困るよな」と私も呟いていたのですが、どうやら、彼女たちの攻撃の方向が違う。

「なんでサポート停止するの！」「パソコンに投資するお金なんかないよ！！」「まだユーザ沢山いるんでしょう？」「企業や学校はどうなるの」

―― あれ？ 怒りの矛先が、Microsoft社に向かっている？

―― いや、そりゃちょっと、Microsoft社に酷に過ぎないか。

江端：「Microsoft社は、もう何年も前から、サポートを終了すると宣言してきた上に、実際にこれまでサポート期間の延長もしてきたのだから、それは、ちょっと気の毒だと思うぞ」

嫁さん：「だって、我が家のパソコン、何の問題もなく動いているんだよ。一体何の為に、そんなことするの」

江端：「そりゃ、『WindowsXPではセキュリティの問題を担保できないから』が表向きの理由だけけど、実質は『Microsoft社も、新しい製品を売りたいから』だろうね」

嫁さん：「それ、企業としてどうなの。製品を担保するのは、企業倫理からしても当然でしょう？」

江端：「しかしなぁ、冷蔵庫や洗濯機にしても、部品を保管している期間は7年しかないし、7年過ぎれば修理できないというのが業界の常識だよ。WindowsXPは10年以上サポートされてきたよ」

―― あれ、なんで、私は、Microsoft社の弁護なんかしているんだ？

私の出した方針は

「ビクビクしながら、今のパソコンを使い続ける」

です。

調べてみたのですが、現在のパソコンが古すぎて、対応ドライバが見つからず、また調べてみてもOS移行の成功例が発見できなかったからです。

嫁さん：「で、その方針だと、どうなるの？」

江端：「メリットは、『金がかからん』の一点。デメリットは、セキュリティの脅威に怯え続けることのほか、他のベンダによる新しいソフトウェア(ブラウザ)やミドルウェアのインストールなどができなくなることが挙げられるかな」

長女：「よく分からん」

江端：「かなり乱暴だが、数年以内に『"Youtube"が見れなくなる』『Podへの音楽の録音ができなくなる』という理解でいい」

「その時 江端家が動いた」―― と感じました。

(NHKで放送されていた日本の歴史情報番組「その時歴史が動いた」風に。この音楽で思い出せるかと思います)

家族が、新しいOSへの対応に必要な対応やコストについて、私に尋ね始めました。

めずらしく、海外のSF小説を読んでいました。

After a long time, I have finished reading a foreign book of science fiction.

「ナチの亡霊」という本なのですが、科学ネタが多くて、それなりに面白かったです。

The title was "Black order” that includes a lot of science tips. I enjoyed it.

私は、「ナチ」とか「ヒトラー」とかが含まれている本に、フラフラと近寄っていく性癖があるようです。

I seem to be disposed to approach books whose title includes "Nazi" or "Hitler".

それを見た、私の後輩が、

と質問してきたことがありました。

やっぱり「夜と霧」は、影響大きかったかなぁ。

I am confident that I am going to become a victim against terrorist of reactionary forces easily.

だって、結構、「反権力的」とも読めるコラムを、いくつもリリースしてしまっていますからね。

I have already released several columns, that some person might believe that I am an ant establishmentarian.

もう取り消せないし。

Also, I could not erase the facts.

ですから、いつでも逃げ出す準備を怠らないように、こういう本で、自分を「オレンジアラート」の状態にしているのです。

Therefore I keep giving me an "Orange alert" caution, because I could always run away as soon as possible.

以前も書きましたが、特許出願して審査請求すれば、2年くらいで特許庁の審査官から「拒絶理由通知」が届きます。

The other day I wrote that after applying for a patent application, a juror of the Patent Office is going to send the notification of reasons of refusal to me after two years.

「ダメ」と言われる、ということです。

It means that they say "No".

で、これをひっくり返す為には、審査官に意見を申し立てる、または、明細書の内容を変更する、など、まあ、色々やらなければならないことがあります。

In order to change their impression, I have to set up our opinions to them or change contents of the application. Anyway the actions annoy me.

しかし、最も面倒なことは、

―― 自分の発明が分からん

"I can understand my invention I made before."

ということなのです。

これも以前も書きましたが、「2年前の私」は「私」ではないです。

I also said that I who was in two years ago is not me in the present.

もっとはっきり言えば「赤の他人」です。

Generally speaking, he is a complete stranger.

で、この「赤の他人」は、まったく特許明細書の記述がなっていないのです。

The patent application of this complete stranger is absolutely nonsense.

『なんで、もっと分かりやすく書けんのかなぁ、このバカは』

Why this foolish guy could not write his invention explicitly?

と、腹を立てることになります。

もっとも、コピペ防止対策は、私達エンジニアのタスクなんですけどね ―― というか、ほとんど、そのような技術は完成しているのですが。

Engineers like me, should provide the teachers with a copy-guard technologies, however, these technologies has almost already completed.

ネットからの引用、友人間の宿題のコピーについては、まだポピューラではないのかもしれませんが、類似判定という技術がありますので、それを使って貰えば足ります。

Though there is a similarity determination technology, it might not be popular for quotes from the Internet, or copy and paste among friends.

とは言え、これのらツールやアプリを、激務の現場の教師に押しつけるのは、酷かもしれません。

On the other hand, it is a pity to enforce the front-line busy teachers to use these tools or applications.

また、このような技術は、むしろ学生の方が、先回りして使い出すかもしれません。

In addition, students are used to using these technologies.

このような検知手段を回避する為に、文面の変更をする努力は、結局のところ、そのコピーするレポートを深く理解することになります。

An effort to avoid the waring of these tools, is finally to make the students understood the contents of the report deeply.

そういうことで、結局、レポートの目的は達成されるのではないかと思うんですよ。

Finally, all of the above will achieve the first target, after all, I think.

しかし、この方法にも問題があります。

However, I am afraid that there is a problem of this method.

これは、中学生の全員が、ワープロを扱えるという大前提が必要となるからです。

This method needs a major premise, that all juniro high school students can use WP.

先日、映画「この世界の片隅に」について書きました。

The other day, I wrote about the movie "In This Corner of the World".

この映画の中で、ただ一回だけ、主人公「スズ」が激昂するシーンが登場します。

In this movie, only one time, "Suzu" who is a heroin, is driven by wild emotion.

そのシーンを見た瞬間、私は、

"Sunk-Cost Fallacy"

という言葉が思い浮かびました。

サンクコストとは、文字通り「埋没費用」であり、ぶっちゃけていえば、「無駄になった投資コスト」のことです。

"Sunk-Cost" is literally "sunk cost", and to be honest, it means "wasted investment cost".

今回、父の死去に伴う相続関係の手続で、役所から役所へと「戸籍謄本の回収リレー」を行いました。

This time, I had to do a "relay race" to collect family register of deceased father, from a city hall to another city hall.

もし、出生や移動の記録が、ブロックチェーンで一元的に管理されれば、あの馬鹿げた「巡回セールスマン問題」をやらなくて済むようになるかもしれません。

If "black-chain" consolidates our records of birth and moving, we will not have to do the stupid "traveling salesman problem".

本人の署名の根拠となっている「印鑑証明」という仕組みについても、『よくもまあ、こんな仕組みで機能してしているよなぁ』と感心しています。

According to the system of "officially registered seal", I am impressed that "why this system work well".

例えば、印鑑は偽造可能ですし、印鑑証明を交付する本人の身分証明書(運転免許証等)も偽造可能です。

For example, it is possible to make a "fake seal". In order to get "seal registration certificate", we can ask someone to make a "fake driver's license".

(もっとも、役所が運転免許の番号で、問い合わせしているのかもしれませんが)

しかし、結局のところ、自分が自分であることの証明は、『その手続の複雑さ』で担保しているように思えます。

本人認証としては、指紋と合わせて、指の汗腺から出た汗でDNA認証をすれば、そちらの方が安全確実だと思います。

As ID system, it is better to use a DNA identification device using finger sweat and fingerprint/

寝たきりになっている母の本人認証は、本人に筆記能力がなくとも、指の汗からDNAを読みとるデバイスをスマホに付けて、そのまま銀行に送信すれば足りるはずです。

For my mother in bed without a toe to the floor, I will get her ID by the above process and send it to bank. It will be enough.

相続や保険も、改竄不能であることが担保される証明書や手段が簡単に手に入るのであれば、銀行から、これらの手続系の業務も消滅するかもしれません。

For succession and insurance, if we can get methods and certificates that are guaranteed by non-rewrite, the protocol works will be perished from banks.

今回、私は、相続に関しての必要な書類(印鑑証明書、戸籍謄本、住民票)を、全部、実家の近くの深夜のコンビニで入手しました。

This time, I got all the necessary documents (stamp certificate, family register, resident card) on inheritance at a late-night convenience store near my parents house.

これを「自宅の居所の市役所まで戻って入手しなければならない」と考えるだけで、ゾっとします。

It is scary just thinking that "I must get back to the city office at my home residence".

私は、学生の頃、バイクで長距離移動をしていましたが、120km/hなどというスピードは、恐しくてとても出せるものではありません。

When I was college student, I used a motor bike for a long distance, but I could not speed more than 120km/h for fear of death.

実際、高速道路におけるバイク事故の死亡率は、恐しく高いです。

In fact, the mortality rate of motor bike on a high way, is extremely high.

私が記憶している限り、自動車と比較して、"何割"増し、ではなく"何倍"増しの世界です。

As far as I know, it is a story that is not "what percentage" but "how many times".

ですので、私は、どんな「あおり運転」よりも、バイクが後方に出現する方が怖いです。

So I'm more afraid of the bike appearing backwards than any "tailgating".

昨夜、昔の自分のコラムのレビューをしていたら、ダイエット(摂食障害)について、コメントが付いているのに気がつきました。

I was reviewing my old column last night and noticed a comment attached to it about diet (eating disorders).

―― 「また食事を摂らなけばならない」と思うだけで、明日が来るのが怖い

"I'm scared that tomorrow will come just by thinking "I have to eat again""

この壮絶なフレーズを目にして、私は、涙が出そうになりました。

When I saw this fierce phrase, I was about to cry.

「食べない」のではなく「食べられなくなる」という、悪魔の病気 ―― 拒食症

The Devil's Disease of not "not eating" but "not being able to eat" -- Anorexia

このコラムは、「半世紀を生きた」「男性」である私ですら、簡単に「拒食症」のスパイラルに陥っていった実体験のレポートです。

This column is a real report of a real-life experience where even I, a "man" who "lived half a century", easily went into an "anorexia" spiral.

ましてや、「ティーンエイジャ」の「女の子」にとっては、拒食症に至るプロセスが「坂道を転げ落ちるように」簡単であることは、想像に難くありません。

And it's not hard to imagine that for a "teenage" "girl" the process of getting to anorexia is as easy as "rolling downhill".

■我が国の拒食症による死亡者は、年間584人(フランスでは、3000～4000人)

- The number of deaths from anorexia nervosa in Japan is 584 per year (3000 to 4000 in France).

■わが国(日本)の若い女性の半分以上（または、大部分）の死因が、拒食症

- More than half (or all) of the young women in Japan (Japan) die from anorexia.

となり「若い女性は、死ぬためにダイエットをしている」という解釈(もちろん極論)も成立します。

私のコラムは長いです。

My columns are long.

しかし、長いということは、沢山調べて、沢山計算して、沢山図表を作成して、沢山文章を書いていうことです。

However, "long" means a lot of research, a lot of calculations, a lot of diagrams, and a lot of writing.

でもって、長い時間、脳ミソを使って、長い時間、パソコンに向っている訳です。

And, I spend a lot of time using my brains and facing the computer for a long time.

だから、一人くらい

"I love how long Ebata's columns are!"

と、コメントしてくれても良さそうなものだと思うのですが、そういうコメントは、未だ見たことありません。

I think it would be nice if one of them would comment that way, but I have yet to see such a comment.

『もっと簡潔に』とコメントする人は、恋愛小説であっても、そういうコメントするのかなぁ、とか考えています。

I'm wondering if people who comment "more concise" would do so even if it's a romance novel.

恋愛小説にも色々あるとは思いますが、ストーリーの骨子って、基本的にこんな感じですよね。

I know there are many kinds of romance novels, but the framework of a story is basically like this.

(Step 1)出会う

(Step 1) They encounter

(Step 2)色々なトラブル/イベントが起きる

(Step 2) Various troubles/events occur.

(Step 3)別れる or 結ばれる

(Step 3) They break up or get together

3行です。これなら、3秒で読み終われます。

Three lines. You can finish reading this in three seconds.

しかし、恋愛小説を『長い』っていう人、私は、知りません。

However, I don't know anyone who says that romance novels are "long".

まあ、そう思っても、そう主張することが「ナンセンス」で「無礼」で「下品」であることを、皆が知っているからだと思います。

Well, even if you think so, I think it is because we all know that it is "nonsense", "rude" and "vulgar" to claim so.

もっとも ―― 短く書かなければならないものは沢山あります。

There are many things that need to be written in short form.

上司に提出する報告書は、できるだけ論旨を明確にして書かなければなりません。

Reports to be submitted to superiors and organizations must be written with as clear an argument as possible.

そもそも、社会人の新人が最初に徹底的に訓練されるのが、この「簡潔な報告書の書き方」です。

To begin with, the first thing that newcomers to the workforce are thoroughly trained in is how to write a concise report.

特にエンジニアの場合は、膨大な時間(2年くらい)を費やして、徹底的な教育がされます(多分、今もここは変わっていないと思います)。

Especially in the case of engineers, a huge amount of time (about 2 years) is spent on thorough training (I think this probably hasn't changed).

論文であれば、200ページ以上の分量の研究結果を、数ページに纏めなければなりません。

If it is a research paper, you have to summarize the results of a 200+ page study into a few pages.

学会予稿集であれば2ページです。

If it is a conference proceedings, it is two pages.

zip, tar, cab, 7z なんぞの圧縮アルゴリズムなんぞ、目ではありません。

Compression algorithms such as zip, tar, cab, 7z, and so on are nothing

私たち「訓練されたエンジニア」の「文章圧縮技術」を舐めて貰っては困ります。

Don't underestimate "sentence compression skills" of our "trained engineers"

では、なぜ、私のコラムは長いのか。

So why are my columns so long?

その理由は明快です。

The reason for this is clear.

―― 私には、書きたいこと/言いたいことが沢山あるからです

"Because I have so much to write/say"

それなら、江端は「プレゼン能力絶無の小中校の学校の校長の話」を批判できないのではないか、という意見があるかもしれませんが、これは批判としては失当です。

Then, one might say, Ebata cannot criticize "the story of a principal of an elementary and middle school with no presentation skills," but this is an unfair criticism.

私は、炎天下で子どもたちを起立させ続けて、貧血で倒れさせるような『子どもへの虐待は一切していない』からです。

This is because I do not 'abuse children in any way,' such as keeping them standing up in the hot sun and making them collapse from anemia.

そして、『読みたくない人には、途中で止める権利を100%担保している』と主張します。

And I insist, 'If you don't want to read it, you have a 100% guaranteed right to stop in the middle.

しかも、EE Times Japanの編集部は、『江端のコラムの何ページ目で、読者が離れていくか』も、ちゃんと測定しているそうです。

Moreover, the editorial department of EE Times Japan also measures how many pages of Ebata's column a reader leaves.

ですから、私も、「長いコラム」を構成する上で、色々な工夫を試みています(この工夫については『営業秘密』とさせて頂きますが)。

This is why I have been trying to devise various ways to compose a "long column" (which I will keep as a "trade secret").

ともあれ、自己満足で、つまらない内容で、エンターテーメント性のカケラもない、低能な学校の校長の話なんぞと、一緒に括られては、甚しく不本意です。

Anyway, I am very unhappy to be lumped in with the self-satisfied, boring, and unentertaining stories of incompetent school principals.

プログラム作成に関して、生成AIの能力は、もはや疑うべくもありません。

The capabilities of generative AI concerning programming are no longer in doubt.

一方、生成AIを使ってイラストも試してみたのですが、全く思うような絵が出てきません。

On the other hand, I have tried illustrations using the generated AI, but it does not produce the picture I want.

使い方が良くないのかもしれませんが、私が欲しいのは、『コンセプトを表わしてくれる線画』なのです。

Maybe I'm not using it correctly; anyway, I want a line drawing that represents the concept.

例えば、

とまあ、こんな1フレーズのオーダに対して、本当に簡単な線図(色も不要)を書き出してくれる ―― そういう生成AIってないものでしょうか。

And well, I wonder if there is such a generative AI that can write out an elementary line diagram (no color required) for a one-phrase order like this.

ご存知の方は、教えて下さい。

まあ、イラストを描いている時は、頭が真っ白になれるので、嫌いな時間ではないのですが、いかんせん、私の場合、時間がかかりすぎるのが悩みです。

Well, it is not a time that I don't like because I can go blank when I am illustrating, but, in my case, it takes too much time.
