最近、朝のニュース番組などで、ボーカロイド(ボカロ)が、初音ミクを例に、紹介されるようになっているそうです。

何年か前には、主要なマスコミメディアは、まるでボカロ愛好者を変態扱いまでしていたようですから、「えらい態度の変え方だな」と、思っている人も多いでしょう。

しかし、この事実は、新しい技術と文化が、ある一定の期間「寝かせつつ」と、ブームをゆっくりと細々とでも継続させ続けるということが、いかに大切であるか、という、一つの分かりやすい事例とも言えます。

そういう技術(または文化)は、それを作り上げている人からは価値があるように見えますが、そうでない人からは、「どーでも良い」ものです。

そういう技術開発には、予算が付かないのです。

予算が付かないと、なかなか自分の意思だけで続けるというのは、難しいです。だって、「何も食べずに働くようなもの」ですから。

我々研究員がやりたい研究を続ける為に必要とされる資質というのは、「能力」「才能」「熱意」「カリスマ」というようなものよりは、寧ろ、

「粗食」で幸せになれるような、「自己洗脳」だと思います。

毎日、納豆御飯ともやし炒めで「我慢する」 ―― ではなく、そのような食事を、心から「美味しい」と思える、自己催眠の技が必要になってくるのだと。

私も今、だれにも知られないように、2つの研究と勉強を続けています(週末研究員)。

一生「日の目を見ること」はなさそうな、無茶な挑戦であると自分でも思っています。

ですから、時々、お腹がへって、そのひもじさに、ステーキハウスの前のウィンドウの前で、もの欲しそうな顔をしてしまいます。

(この場合、ステーキハウスとは、国や会社から、予算が付くような研究テーマ(今でいう「クラウド」、昔でいう「ファジィ」など)が相当するか、と)

それでも、私は、敢えて「納豆御飯」を選ぶという生き方もあると信じています。

でも、正直なところ、研究員は「メジャー」なってナンボ、というのも事実です。

そして、ほとんどの場合、「納豆御飯」の人生の多くは、「納豆御飯」の人生で終わります。

ですから、一年365日、いつどこでも、「納豆御飯」を美味しいと思えない人には、絶対にお勧めできない生き方です。

週末、長女の世界史年号の暗記につきあっていました。

Last weekend, I went with my senior daughter about rote learning of world history.

私、年号暗記なんぞ、歴史の勉強ではないと確信していますので、最小限の個数を、最小限の努力で行なうべきだと思っています。

I don't think that the rote learning of world chronological table is a study of history. So I think we should make less effort for the minimum counts.

歴史の年号は、歴史の流れを理解する為の、ランドマーク(目印)のようなものだと思っています。

The years of world history are just landmarks to understand the flow of the history.

もう、この年になると、力づくの暗記って、もう全然無理です。

I cannot learn many historical events by heart.

そのようなプログラムは、大抵の場合、アルゴリズムの「根っこ」であったりします。

Those codes are, in many case, fundamental function of the algorithm.

そして、その「根っこ」は、私にとっては、完成した完璧なソースコードより、はるかに価値があるのです。

For me, the code is better for me than complete and completed source code by far.

汚いコードは、データ構造の本質を理解するのに、大変助かりますし、

A lame and unmade code is helpful to understand a basic structure of data, and,

短いコードは、そのアルゴリズムを理解するのに、大変助かります。

A shorter code is helpful to understand the basic algorithm.

特に、実時間処理を施しているコードなどにおいては、その処理を施す前のコードが、私にとっては至宝のコードです。

「大乗仏教 ブッダの教えはどこへ向かうのか」(NHK出版新書)

"Greater vehicle Buddhism --- Where the Dharma teachings of Buddha is going"

は、私の疑問に対して、100%答えてくれる書物で、あっと言う間に読み切ってしまいました。

is to answer my questions perfectly, and I finished reading the book in just about no time.

この本を、どう表現したらいいのか、と色々考えてみました。

I thought that how to express my feeling of reading. How do you think about

『知的大爆笑』というのはどうかな、思っています。

まあ、とにかくこの本や読みやすいです。

Well, the book is readable.

内容が薄いからではなく、むしろ深く、丁寧で、親切な書き方です。

However, the content is not poor but rather rich, and polite and kind.

「青年」と「講師」という二人を登場させているところも「上手い」です。

It is skillful that two persons "a young" and "a lecturer" appear in the book.

ちょっとした不明点や矛盾点にも突っ込んでくる「青年」と、その質問から逃げることなく、全てに答える「講師」の二人のかけあいが、実に楽しい。

The talk between the young, who seeks out tiny question mark and contrariety, and the lecturer try to reply to all his queries, is very fun.

"工学部工業科学科"というフレーズを見て、「ああ、なるほど」と納得しました。

Reading "industrial science in engineering department", I could understand the background.

この本が読みやすかったのは、技術的手法に基づいて、論理的に記載されていたからだと、気がつきました。

最近、WordPressで、私の2つめのホームページを運用しています。

Recently, I've been running my second website in WordPress.

当初、現在のhtmlバージョンを、WordPressに全て移行しようと思ったのですが、ちょっと試してみて、その移行にかかる手間暇がハンパでないことが分かりましたので、断念しました。

At first, I was going to migrate all the current html version to WordPress, but I gave it up because I tried it for a bit and found that the time and effort to migrate was too much.

という訳で、現在、WordPressは、ほとんど「私のメモ帳」として機能しています。

Anyway, at the moment, WordPress is functioning mostly as "my notepad".

今日、安定剤を貰いに、近くのクリニックに来たのですが、「話の長いおばさん」に、辟易してしまいます。

Today, I came to a nearby clinic to get some stabilizers, but I was fed up with the "long-talk old woman".

彼女は、コロナのワクチン摂取の予約が取れない事情を、長々と、クリニックの受付で語り続けていました。

She was talking at the reception desk of the clinic about how she couldn't get an appointment to get the Corona vaccine.

待合室で話を聞いていた私の方が、キレそうになりました。

I was listening to the conversation in the waiting room, and I almost lost my temper.

『結論を先に言え！』と、そのおばさんに説教しそうになりました。

"Tell me the conclusion first!" I was almost to lecture the old woman.

私が、『偉いなぁ、立派だなぁ』と思ったのは、おばさんの話に割り込むことなく、話を聞き続けていた、受付のお姉さんでした。

What I thought was great and admirable was the lady at the reception desk who kept listening to the old woman's conversation without interrupting.

これからは、こういう「非ロジカルトーク」を上手く捌ける人間が、必要となってくるのだろうと思います。

From now on, I think we will need people who can handle this kind of "non-logical talk" well.

なぜなら、私たち(私も含めて)、ロジカルに語ることや、ロジカルに記載することが、苦手だからです。

This is because we (myself included) are not very good at talking logically or describing things logically.

ロジカルトークや、ロジカルライティングは、それだけでトレーニングの対象(対価が発生する)になるほど、難しい技術です。

Logical talk and logical writing are such difficult skills that they should be the subject of training (for a price) on their own.

これを、全ての人に強いるのは、普通に「暴力」です。

It is usually "violence" to force this on everyone.

それはよく分かってはいるのですが、『30秒で説明できることを、4回繰り返して、5分以上もしゃべる続けること』も「暴力」だよな、とも思います。

I am well aware of this, but I also think that 'repeating four times what can be explained in 30 seconds and talking for more than five minutes' is also 'violence'.

まあ、そう遠くない未来、私も「そう」なります。

ロジカルかどうかはさておき、私たちの最期は、(1)認知症にならずに死ぬか、(2)認知症なって死ぬか、の二択しかありません。

そして、今や、(2)になる可能性が「圧倒的」です。

When I can't speak well and people around me are cursing me, "Speak your conclusion first!". I can imagine that this is absolutely painful for me.

しかし、その一方で、

最近、FastAPIについて勉強をしていました。

で、最初の入門書と言われているWebサイトを読み直してみました。

So I re-read the Web site that is supposed to be the first introductory book.

実に分かりやすく、素晴しい入門書だ、

入門書というのは、"入門を終えた人"が後からふりかえると、よい復習にはなるが、それ以上のものではない。

An introductory book is a good review for those who have completed the introductory course, but it is not much more than that.

何が言いたいかというと、

What I'm trying to say is, the fact of

『ほとんどの入門書は、入門者にとっては、ただの"ゴミ"』

"Most introductory books are just "garbage" for beginners"

という事実です。

結局私は、FastAPIを、YouTubeに教えてもらいました。

Eventually, about FastAPI, YouTube taught me how to use it.

講師と全く同じ環境にして、全く同じ手順を、画面を止めたり、巻き戻したりしながら、自分の手と目と頭でやりながら、やっと、一番最初の理解に辿りつきました。

I finally arrived at the very first understanding by putting myself in the same environment as the instructor and going through the same steps, stopping and rewinding the screen, using my hands, eyes, and mind.

『FastAPIが何をするものかも分からない状態で、YouTubeの画面と同じこと実施した』が『最適解』だった、ということです。

The best solution was to do the same thing as on the YouTube screen without knowing what FastAPI does.

バックグランドが全然違うのですから。

The backgrounds are completely different.

『基礎が大切』がウソであることは、私の経験では、英語、プログラム、数学、量子力学、制御システム、少子化問題、年金問題・・・、ほとんど全部ですね。

It's my experience that 'fundamentals matter' is a lie: English, programming, math, quantum mechanics, control systems, fertility issues, pension issues... almost everything.

私の経験から言えることは、『始めてしまうことがが大事』です。

From my experience, I can say that 'getting started is the key.

もっと端的に言えば、『突っ込んでいくことが大事』です。

To put it more simply, 'it's important to go in.

訳が分からないまま、小さい失敗と成功を繰り返しながら、膨大な時間を使って、ほんの小さなゴールに辿りついた時

When you reach a small goal after spending a great deal of time repeating small failures and successes without understanding the reason...
