During the return from Osaka business trip, I drop in on my country house in order to observe my mother's operation.

My sister and I are doing maintenance for our country house, and the exterior (garden) and infrastructure (electricity, gas, water, etc.) are my responsibility.

At the previous time of my return home, I had sprayed a powerful herbicide (a medicine that requires an identification card to buy) in the garden.

So, in this homecoming, I had expected to watch the scene in the garden

- like a desert that appears in "Nausica of the Valley of the Winds"

or

- like a forest destroyed by a defoliant that the US Army roared in the Vietnam War,

"Many weeds were growing."

When I examined it, the main objects are grasses called "Seitaka Awadachiso".

But this powerful herbicide is so toxic that even pine trees die.

Against the toxic, I wondered what vitality of these weeds are.

Well, if the grass grows up, it's only good to get out.

However, I have felt unpleasant to "weeds in my home garden that I can not do my own way".

I think that the US military headquarters, which suffered from "Vietcong", had been feeling like this.

(I do not know how many people know the vocabulary of this phrase).

It is not difficult to imagine that the U.S. HQ could not stand the coping battle against the emergence of guerrillas, and decided to contaminate all the soil of the enemy land and make it a land where people can not live(*),

The policy makers of that country have done that for a long time.

For example, dropping an atomic bomb not on the Allied Fleet on the Ocean, but on the head of a non-combatant civilian.
